Duitse kunstenaar Olaf Holzapfel kwam onlangs op kerkbezoek in Middelburg. Met Thom Schaar van CBK Zeeland beklom hij de Oostkerk. Hij was zeer onder de indruk van de enorme balkenconstructie die de basis vormt voor de koepel.

Johan de Koning gaf hem een rondleiding door de Nieuwe Kerk met tekst en uitleg over haar geschiedenis.

De constructies van de Oostkerk en de Nieuwe Kerk inspireerden Olaf en vormen de basis van zijn werk dat tijdens Façade 2012 te zien gaat zijn in de Nieuwe Kerk.

German artist Olaf Holzapfel visited Middelburg and its churches. With Thom Schaar (CBK Zeeland) he climbed the Oostkerk. He was impressed by the immense construction that serves as the fundament of the dome.

Johan de Koning showed Olaf around in the Nieuwe Kerk and told him about the history of the church.

The imposing constructions of the churches inspired Olaf Holzapfel and form the basis for his work for Façade 2012.
