Van 17 augustus t/m 18 november vindt Façade 2012 plaats in de binnenstad van Middelburg: een grote kunst- en architectuurmanifestatie. Organisator is CBK Zeeland.

Façade 2012 bestaat uit een kunstroute door Middelburg met veertien spectaculaire ingrepen in het stadsgezicht door internationaal opererende kunstenaars. Deze op de architectuur geënte installaties zijn ingebed in een parallelprogramma dat ingaat op vragen hoe Middelburg als casus exemplarisch is voor de Nederlandse stad van de 21e eeuw. Centraal staat het begrip authenticiteit. Daarnaast wordt ingegaan op de maakbaarheid van de stad en city branding. De installaties verwonderen, betoveren en verbeelden, maar zetten ook aan tot nadenken over hoe Middelburg er werkelijk uitziet.

What is Façade 2012?

Façade 2012 takes place in the city centre of Middelburg, the Netherlands from 17 August until 18 November. CBK Zeeland is the party that organises this big art and architecture event.

Façade 2012 consists of an art route through Middelburg, with fourteen spectacular interferences in the cityscape by internationally renowned artists. These installations which are engrafted onto architecture fit into a side programme that examines the question how the case of Middelburg is exemplary for the Dutch city of the 21st century. Central to the Façade art event is the concept of authenticity. Other themes will include the ‘makeability of the city’, ‘big (useless) works’ and ‘city branding’. The installations make you wonder, enchant you, and capture your imagination. But they also make you think about what you see and about the role of (façade) architecture in city branding as an experience economy.
